Actually, it hasn’t. Numerous civil societies throughout history have defined marriage in multiple configurations, including polygamy. Some have even allowed married men to have concubines! We are advocating monogamy;
We are not proposing to redefine marriage. We believe that the cornerstone to a healthy, civil society is loving, nurturing relationships and families built around values of love, peace, and mutual respect and care.
In his 1963 “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” We feel that we cannot sit idly by while an institutional injustice is being perpetrated against a portion of the American citizenry.
We will perform wedding services for gay, lesbian, and heterosexual couples, as long as they are two consenting adults; we just won’t sign state-issued marriage licenses.
Actually, gays and lesbians are the ones being discriminated against. They are the ones being systematically denied the basic civil rights that heterosexuals enjoy—and in most cases take for granted.
