Resolution for Mayflower Marriage Policy, June 2006

We affirm that:

  • God calls us to recognize and respect the image of God in all people.
  • The life of Jesus of Nazareth provides a model of radically inclusive love and abundant welcome for all
  • The Bible affirms and celebrates human expressions of love and partnership as gifts of God
  • Responsible, faithful, committed relationships are an expressions of God’s love
  • Marriage is a mutual covenant of love between two persons and God made in the presence of a supportive community

Therefore, Marriage services will continue to be held at Mayflower Church without discrimination and according to the Mayflower Wedding Policy.

The covenanted community of Mayflower church also believes that current civil marriage policies are discriminatory to members of our community and that, at least until those policies are corrected, Mayflower Church will no longer perform civil marriages as an agent of the State of Minnesota. We will continue to perform religious marriages, for all couples, regardless of gender.
